Benefits of learning with BYOD

The school provides a few Chromebooks and iPads in each Year 5-8 class. However, having your child participate in BYOD means no students should need to wait or take turns to access their learning on a device. Learning opportunities can be taken advantage of immediately, and continue elsewhere or at other times.

Our goals include:

  • Developing and lifting student achievement in core curriculum areas of reading, writing and mathematics

  • Increasing opportunities for personalising learning to match learning needs; increased flexibility for timing, pace, choice of tool or learning method, access to resources in a modern learning environment

  • Scaffolding and developing digital citizenship skills and practices - the opportunity to learn this in a supported environment.

  • Connecting learning more closely to family and the wider community, and the ability to continue learning more easily at any time

We also expect to see:

  • Increased student engagement with learning

  • Increased capacity of teachers, students and families to give and receive feedback on learning

  • Minimisation of physical barriers to writing for many students

  • Increased opportunities for collaboration in learning - between students, teachers, families and the wider community

  • More possibilities for innovative learning opportunities connected to current research about how we learn - developing multi-literacies

  • Access to a wider range of learning tools through a variety of applications on the chosen device, and on the internet

  • Opportunities to support a diverse range of learners - inclusivity
