BYOD responsibilities
As with all aspects of learning, the School, parents and students need to work together to develop an understanding of the responsibilities that come with being a digital citizen.

Springston School is responsible for:
NOTE - all students in Years 4-8 are given an individual Springston School GAFE account including access to some or all of the following tools: Drive, Docs, Slides, Spreadsheets, Gmail, Blogger and linked tools). They have this until the time they leave the school.
Although Google accounts are not normally legally available to children under the age of 13, this is possible through a school’s authorised education account.
- Equipment must be named
- Device must meet minimum requirements - screen size, battery capacity, Chrome browser preferred
- Insurance is covered by parents’ policy or within Chromebook bundle purchased from Cyclone
- Device needs to be kept up to date - software downloaded at home.
Students are responsible for:
- Bringing their device to school EVERY day, fully charged and ready for learning
- Charging their device at home
- Breakage - caring for and respecting ALL devices
- Locking their device away in the allocated space during ALL school breaks. Taking it home safely at the end of each day.
- Appropriate use - the device is at school only for school-related learning as approved by the classroom teacher. This includes both off and online use - eg games etc
- The student is to use and sign into the Chrome browser where possible when at school.
- Photography and other recording is only with teacher permission.
- Digital footprint - responsible for what they choose to say and do, following the school's guidelines for safe and responsible digital citizenship.
- Apps - Download (or ask parent to) and/or use of apps and websites appropriate to learning as requested by the teacher. Keep these up to date - especially Google apps.
- Not to use 3G or other data at school - access internet only via wifi.
Springston School is responsible for:
- Provide storage at school for when not in use. It is the student's responsibility to use this.
- Internet use via wifi is filtered. The Linewize and Hapara services we use filter the internet only when at school. They do not guarantee that all inappropriate sites will be blocked. Gmail is filtered and can also be monitored by teachers through an add-on called Teacher Dashboard.
- Sprin gston School holds no responsibility for any loss or damage that might occur
- Setting up Google Apps for Education (GSuite) Account (licensed for students under the age of 13 only when through the school)
- Digital Citizenship programme - responsible use of information, safety, communication and collaboration.
- Learning opportunities to make appropriate use of available devices.
